Titusville, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/13/2018 -- The State of New Jersey has recently passed new legislation which will promise paid sick leave for employees across the state. In its latest blog post, The Lindenberger Group, one of Philadelphia's leading Human Resources agencies, discusses the new laws and what they will mean for New Jersey employees.
The new bill, titled "The New Jersey Sick Leave Law" was signed by Governor Phil Murphy on May 2, 2018, and will go into effect on October 29, 2018. The law provides employees throughout the state with mandatory paid sick leave accrual at a rate of one hour per thirty hours worked, with a maximum of 40 hours of paid sick leave per year.
Employees will start accruing leave when the law takes effect in October, but they cannot use the leave until 120 days later according to the law, although employers can agree to an earlier date if they choose.
The bill applies to most employees throughout the state, with only a few exceptions. Those in the construction industry with a collective bargaining agreement are not covered by this law, nor are per diem healthcare workers or public employees who are currently provided sick leave.
