Tampa, FL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 03/24/2017 -- March is national Blood Clot Awareness Month in the United States, and the president of one national distributor of medical devices is always glad for the chance to discuss the dangers of clots.
"It's important for people to understand that blood clots can affect anyone," said Greg Grambor president of Vascular PRN, a leading distributor of pneumatic compression therapy devices for the prevention of deep vein thrombosis. "You don't have to be elderly or unhealthy to get a blood clot," Grambor went on. "You don't have to be bedridden or have had a recent surgery. There are so many causes and so many factors."
The creation of Blood Clot Awareness Month was spearheaded by two U.S. Representatives, Lois Capps (D-CA) and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA). Each of them lost a loved one to a type of blood clot known as a pulmonary embolism.
"Hospitals and nursing homes are incorporating pneumatic compression therapy into their patient care in increasing numbers," Grambor said. "That's because in addition to being very non-invasive and easy for the patient to accept, it's also effective and low-cost. But it's not just institutions that use compression therapy. With a doctor's prescription, people are using the devices in their homes and even as they travel, with the help of our portable models."
