After accepting the appointment, Mr. Andrew was interviewed and gave a brief introduction to his own experience and the work of UPM Asia Paper.

Congratulations! Can you briefly introduce yourself? My UPM career began in 1998 when I joined UPM Randalland. From 2002 to 2005, I held various positions from production engineer to paper mill manager. From 2005 to the end of 2008, I worked in UPM's North American Business Unit and was responsible for the production and sales of printing paper. In 2008, UPM reorganized the structure and established the Paper Business Department. I became the head of the supply chain, working in Helsinki. Since 2013, I am responsible for the UPM European and North American paper management team, working in Augsburg.

You are currently in charge of UPM's largest business unit. Now you are going to lead the Asian Paper Department. What are your expectations and what areas do you feel challenged with, and in which areas have a competitive advantage?

First of all, with many changes, I will face a series of new issues: different cultures and lifestyles, different markets, and customer groups with different business habits and behaviors. In order to create more value for the management of Asian paper industry, I want to meet many of our employees and customers. It is too early for me to talk about the specific challenges of Asia's label materials and cultural papers. Obviously, the biggest challenge is how to successfully market our new paper machine. I hope that I can quickly grasp the overall situation and understand where we are today and where we need to be.

You have a long career at UPM. Have you been familiar with the situation in Asia? Or the situation of labels, packaging and specialty paper? Do you understand the business environment, customers, competition, grades, departments and employees in Asia? When management During the supply chain team, I had some contact with Asian teams and markets. I once worked with the supply chain team in Asia. In addition, I also know some former colleagues in the paper business. In terms of products, the beginning of my career is on cultural papers, which will help me. So far, I have less contact with Asian customers.

You will officially take office on July 1st, 2018. What are your preparations before this? I plan to go to Shanghai in May and meet all the members of the management team. I hope to work with them to prepare for my familiarization stage. Obviously, all aspects of this career change need to be considered, such as finding a place to live and moving my items from Augsburg to Shanghai.

Can you share your thoughts about UPM European and North American paper and experience in Augsburg? I really enjoyed the past two years. A lot of things happened during this period, starting with the move to Augsburg, setting up a new business structure and focusing on the challenging market environment. Despite all the challenges, we have an excellent management team that is extremely team-oriented. Augsburg is a great city and I hope the local football club FCA can achieve better results!
